Hello Neighbour

Welcome to the Oakridge Monitor, where we document what's happening in the southwest Calgary community of Oakridge.

Speed limit on Palliser Drive reduced to 40 km/h

Thanks to the lobbying efforts of the Oakridge Community Association (OCA), the City of Calgary has reduced the speed on Palliser Drive S.W. – the main thoroughfare through the community – to 40 km/h from 50 km/h. The OCA has been lobbying for this change for a couple of years, to improve pedestrian safety in the community.

The switch over took place on the weekend of Aug. 12-13.

This is the second victory for the OCA this summer when it comes to improving pedestrian safety in the community. Just a couple of weeks earlier, crosswalk lights were officially operational at 90th Avenue and Oakside Gate S.W., where many Oakridge residents enter South Glenmore Park.

Traffic safety issues have become one of the biggest issues of the OCA since the opening of the Southwest Ring Road two years ago. Efforts will continue to be made on this file by the civic affairs committee in the months ahead.
