Hello Neighbour

Welcome to the Oakridge Monitor, where we document what's happening in the southwest Calgary community of Oakridge.

Purlieu already a favourite with Oakridge residents

Purlieu already a favourite with Oakridge residents

This past Tuesday evening saw the long-awaited opening of Purlieu restaurant, and since that time the “modern bistro” has seen a steady stream of customers through its doors.

Under the leadership of manager Jason Armstrong and chef Eric Mah, if a recent Friday night visit was any indication, Purlieu Modern Bistro appears poised to become a dining destination for Oakridge residents for many years to come.

Purlieu opened quietly by letting its small group of Instagram followers know last Monday evening that it would ready for customers at 5 p.m. the next day. The 35-seat restaurant started taking reservations shortly thereafter.

The menu is broken down into three categories: Small Plates, Pasta, and Mains, with prices ranging from $12 for appetizers to $35 for mains. On a Friday evening visit, favourites included the confit Peking duck in steam buns and the PEI mussels and fries in a French curry broth.

While those two small plates were more enough to satisfy our table of two, we couldn’t resist trying the tagliatelle pasta, which didn’t disappoint us (nor our 16-year-old son, who enjoyed the leftovers at home).

The wine list is small, but perfectly suited to the menu, and the rotating beer list on this particular evening featured local favourite Village Blonde.

Purlieu is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. until the last guest leaves. It is closed on Mondays. There are plans to incorporate a Sunday brunch soon.

Purlieu is located at 3109 Palliser Drive S.W and reservations can be made by calling 403-280-7474. For more information, visit www.purlieucalgary.ca
