Christmas kicks off in Oakridge

The Christmas season kicks off in earnest this weekend in Oakridge with two tell-tale signs that the holiday season is just around the corner.

First, the annual Kids Christmas Craft Sale takes place this Friday, Nov. 30th in the arena lobby of the Oakridge Community Centre. From 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. participants in the Oakridge Community Before and After School Care Program will be selling homemade crafts. The Centre is located at 9504 Oakfield Drive S.W.

And the next day, the annual Oakridge Co-Op Christmas Tree Lot will come to life. Hosted by the local troupes of Scouts Canada/Girl Guides of Canada, the lot is located in the Co-Op parking lot just north of the Boston Pizza at 2580 Southland Drive S.W.

The lot is staffed by volunteers and it serves as a fundraiser for Scouts Canada/Girl Guides of Canada. It is open every day from Dec. 1stthrough until the weekend before Christmas, or until the trees sell-out. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, and noon to 9 p.m. on weekdays.

Trees retail for between $50 and $65 depending on the type of tree.
