Hello Neighbour

Welcome to the Oakridge Monitor, where we document what's happening in the southwest Calgary community of Oakridge.

Oakridge Seniors group continues to grow

An informal group of seniors (over 55 years of age) living in Oakridge is quietly growing in size by offering this community’s older community with a variety of events in which to participate.

Spokesperson Gary Hearle spoke to the Oakridge Community Association board earlier this week to provide an update on the fledgling group’s activities. “We are an informal group with no real structure,” Hearle joked. “We are an extremely flat organization.”

With approximately 60 names on an email list, the Oakridge Seniors group host events every week. One of the most popular is a “coffee chat and gathering” at the Jetana Concession in the Oakridge Arena, where up to 25 people have been meeting each Wednesday morning from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Topics include discussions about travel and life experiences and have recently featured presentations from local Oakridge businesses. The group also hosts walks on Tuesdays from 10 to 11:45 a.m. that originate at the waterpark in South Glenmore Park.
